How to fix your iPhone if it is slow

How to fix your iPhone if it is slow

Is your iPhone slow to respond? Trying to open an app and there is a delay? Just like a normal computer, sometimes a little maintenance can help speed up the OS. Here's a few tips that work for me.
How to fix your iPhone if it is slow

Enter SETTINGS>SAFARI

Here you will find CLEAR HISTORY & CLEAR COOKIES AND DATA.

By clearing history, it will close all current browsing pages that you have open. Please save any unfinished work or bookmark pages that you do not want to lose BEFORE you click CLEAR HISTORY.

As the photo says, cookies and data helps speed up browsing, but it can also slow down your system by caching temporary files. Personally, I clear this weekly as regular maintenance.

Sometimes closing certain apps help to clear up system resources. To close running, suspended, or background apps, DOUBLE TAP the HOME button. This will pull up a list of running apps.

Press and hold down one of the app icons for two (2) seconds. The apps will start to wiggle and have a red minus sign on the left corner. Press the minus sign to shut down the app.

On another note, if an app isn't working properly, try closing it using this method and re-opening it again. Sometimes it just needs a restart.

Another tip is to do a hard restart on the iPhone. Do this by holding down the top lock button and home screen button until the phone turns off and the starting Apple appears on the screen.

Another tip I found to be beneficial is reducing the frequency that iOS checks for mail. You can find this in SETTINGS>MAIL,CONTACTS,CALENDARS

Scroll down to find the FETCH NEW DATA option. From here, you can reduce the time that your system checks for new mail. This also helps reduce battery drain.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Coolpad has launched yet another budget handset in the India market dubbed as 'Coolpad Note 3 Lite'. The smartphone is said to be the toned down version of the last year launched Note 3. The company has priced the device at Rs 6,999, and it will be exclusively available on Amazon via flash sale model.

Watching porn in incognito mode may not be entirely safe

Watching porn in incognito mode may not be entirely safe

Google Chrome's incognito mode

Google Chrome's incognito mode could show pornographic videos hours after windows are closed.
Even after a window has been shut, its contents could pop up in apparently innocent places, according to one researcher. And since the tool is often used to look at pornographic videos and other sensitive content, that could lead to significant embarrassment and problems.
Evan Andersen, an engineering student at the University of Toronto, said that he found the problem when he opened up a game of Diablo III. But what actually popped up on the screen was a pornographic site that he had been looking at hours previously, he said.
Anderson claims that the problem arises because of a problem with an Nvidia chip. The chip doesn't erase its contents when it opens up a new application, he claimed, meaning that it can leak into the other.
If the contents of that last window was a pornographic video that was apparently hidden in an old window, then that could easily pop back up when looking at something else.
Andersen said that it was a "serious problem."
"It breaks the operating system's user boundaries by allowing non-root users to spy on each other," he wrote. "Additionally, it doesn't need to be specifically exploited to harm users - it can happen purely by accident. Anyone using a shared computer could be exposing anything displayed on their screen to other users of the computer."
Andersen said that he had told Nvidia and Google about the bug two years ago. He said that Google would not fix it "because Google Chrome incognito mode is apparently not designed to protect you against other users on the same computer (despite nearly everyone using it for that exact purpose)."
Nvidia told The Next Web that the problem was blamed on Apple, because it had "not seen this issue on Windows." Apple has been contacted for comment.

Incognito mode can be used for a range of different purposes — including heading to websites without any cookies installed, or browsing while on a share computer. But it has acquired the informal name of "porn mode" because of the other, more unseemly use to which it is often put.
Chrome's own warning when opening up the mode makes clear that it isn't 100% safe from prying eyes.
"Going incognito doesn't hide your browsing from your employer, your internet service provider, or the websites you visit," a message that pops up when a user opens one of the windows reads.

What if internet browsers were girls?

Did you ever get so bored you started picturing what the internet browsers would look like if they were girls? No? Well, professional photo artist Mike Roshuk did. And not only did he imagine it, but he used his Photoshop talents and contacts with beautiful models to create human versions of each of the most popular internet browsers. The browsers illustrated in The Internet Browser Series project are Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Opera, Safari and Firefox.

The construction of Hyperloop has finally started

The construction of Hyperloop has finally started

The construction of Hyperloop has finally started

A safe way to travel at more than 1,100 km/h without using fossil fuels, rails or roads might sound like science fiction, but it’s exactly what Elon Musk suggested when envisioning the fastest means of transport in the world: Hyperloop. Instead of using a roads and rails, the Hyperloop consists of a long, depressurized tube that ‘shoots’ a capsule carrying people or materials, from a point A to a point B.

“You just remove the pressure from an enclosed environment — you can think of that as a tube. You remove the friction of wheels by levitating that pod inside the tube, and then it takes a very little amount of energy to move that pod at incredible speed,” said Rob Lloyd, President of Hyperloop Technologies, in an interview with CNNMoney.

Elon Musk, who first proposed the hypothesis of Hyperloop, did so to protest against the plans of the former governor of California to build a bullet train that would cost $68 billion to build and would charge people $100 to travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles. According to the billionaire, you can create a collective means of transport much faster spending much less, provided with the right technology.

Musk has developed guidelines for the construction of Hyperloop and then open-sourced a 60-page document on how it could be done, challenging investors, companies and scientists to make it happen – and Hyperloop Technologies owned up to the challenge. The test tubes being built by the company will begin to be assembled and tested in the coming months in the state of Nevada, and it is expected that the final model will be fully-functional by 2020.
Easy Facial for Men

Easy Facial for Men

Facial for Men

Spas are not just for women anymore, these days more and more men are seeking out spa treatments! Some spas cater exclusively to men with high-tech amenities like flat-screen TVs that play sporting events, wireless Internet access, and IPod docking stations. Men's spas may have sleek interiors that incorporate stainless steel, leather, and wood and have full barber shop facilities and bars where men can unwind with snacks like chips and even beer!

When you go:
Facials for men are specifically formulated to male needs, which are often shaving-related, such as razor burn, or other conditions like skin sensitivity and dullness. There are also men's facials that target skin roughened by spending time in the great outdoors and ones that are tailored to acne, excessive sweating, living in a city, and skin conditions related to aging. Deep-pore cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliation, toning, and vigorous facial, neck, and shoulder massages are sometimes included during men’s facials, which usually last from 30-minutes to a few hours long. Different products are used for men's and women's facials, and when essential oils are used, more traditionally masculine scents are the norm and masks, lotions, and hot towels are often utilized. Men may need to schedule a series of facial treatments to see optimal results.

Men may also want to consider scheduling an appointment for a spa facial before their wedding day so they look their best when walking down the aisle.

After your treatment:
After their treatments, men should ask their spa therapists about special skin-care products that are formulated to treat skin concerns that affect men and any skin-care regimens that they can follow on their own at home.

Other popular spa treatments targeted to men could include massages particularly modalities tailored to sports like golf, laser hair removal, hair care, shaving services, microdermabrasion, sunless tanning, men's manicures and pedicures, and waxing.

20 Things You Need To Know About Colombo’s Lotus Tower

20 Things You Need To Know About Colombo’s Lotus Tower

Colombo’s Lotus Tower

On a clear day, it’s difficult to miss the yet to be completed Lotus Tower dominating Colombo’s skyline. Although the project has been mired in controversy (and not the Freudian sort), and perhaps because of it, most people seem unsure as to what purpose the Tower will serve. We all know the basics of how the Lotus Tower will be the tallest tower in South Asia – but here’s a list of things about the Lotus Tower which you probably didn’t know, but should know (because let’s face it, whether you like it or not, it’s definitely here to stay).

1. Currently, 292.2 metres (958 feet) of the Lotus Tower, up to the concrete mast, has been completed. The metal mast and the petals are yet to be finished.

2. The entire project is to be completed by October 2017 and the tower will be declared open towards the end of 2017.

3. Once completed, and with the lightning tower in place, the tower will stand at a total of 350 metres.

Colombo’s Lotus Tower in comparison to some other famous tall buildings in the world

4. The Lotus Tower, on completion, will act as a transmission tower for TV and radio. The Telecom Regulatory Commission (TRC) informed Roar that the rationale behind the Lotus Tower acting as a single transmission hub is to equalise the quality of transmission and ensure that all consumers have equal access to quality broadcast. This will also ensure that the operations cost of digital transmissions by the current service providers will reduce.

5. Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) will act as the independent operator, taking over the responsibility to transmit.

6. The first and second floors of the Tower House, at approximately 215 metres and 219.8 metres (705 and 721 feet), are for TV and radio transmissions respectively.

7. The Lotus Tower, however, isn’t solely for transmissions. It will be a multifunctional building.  Its three storied tower base will house various shopping centres (mostly high end), food courts, and possibly even a walk-through museum. The tower itself will house banquet halls and an observation deck.

8. According to the TRC, the cost of the tower is covered by a loan from the Export-Import Bank of China. This loan will be paid back with the revenue earned from renting out space.

9. There will be two banquet halls which will accommodate 450 people each. They will be on the third and fourth floors of the Tower House at a height of 224.6 metres and 224.6 metres (721 and 737 feet).

10. At 234.2 metres (768 feet), there will be a restaurant with a revolving floor for fine dining.

11. There will also be suites for state guests on the seventh floor, at 244 metres (784 feet).

12. The TRC estimates that by August this year, the ‘petals’ of the tower will be in place.

13. The framework of the petals will be in steel, while the petals will be made of glass. The petals will be illuminated with LED lights of changeable colours.

14. During festivities (like Christmas, Avurudu and Eid), the tower will have appropriate decoration displays.

15. The TRC also has plans of building an interactive app to improve visitor experience to the tower. This app will enable users to, for instance, check the availability of seats for a movie and make immediate bookings, or remotely reserve seats at a restaurant. The app will keep the visitor updated about events and attractions taking place at the tower.

16. An entrance ticket will be required to enter the Lotus Tower. Concessions may be granted to school children and families.

17. The outdoor viewing deck, or the observation deck, will be on the eighth floor of the Tower House at a height of 248.2 metres (814 feet). There will also be viewing telescopes.

18. There will be eight elevators in the Tower. Three elevators in the tower will be high speed elevators, two will travel at a medium pace, while the three slower elevators will be mostly for service usage. With the high speed elevators, it will be possible to reach the observation deck from the tower base in less than a minute.

19. While the petals will be illuminated with LED lights, the trunk will be illuminated using flood lights. This will mean that the tower will be seen even at night, from a considerable distance.

20. There are plans for a Phase II, which will be built in the same locality as the Lotus Tower. It will house  underground parking for 2,000 vehicles (and will also include parking for daily commuters), a shopping arcade (to cater to all income groups), gyms, swimming facilities, and theatres.

With all these plans in the pipeline, the Lotus Tower certainly appears to promise a change in Colombo’s skyline – here’s hoping it will be a change for the better.
How to make Cortana to use Google instead of Bing

How to make Cortana to use Google instead of Bing

How to make Cortana to use Google instead of Bing

Windows 10's new search assistant, Cortana, is pretty useful, but she has one big flaw -- all her search results go through Microsoft's search engine Bing. For those of us who live and die by Google, this is pretty unforgivable. For obvious reasons, Microsoft doesn't make it easy to switch out Cortana's default search engine -- if you want the convenience of Cortana, you'll need to get used to using Bing.

Or will you?

You can actually force Cortana to use Google -- or DuckDuckGo, or Yahoo -- instead of Bing with a Google Chrome extension called Chrometana. Here's how to do that.

1. Set Google Chrome as your default browser

In order for this fix to work, you will need to have Google Chrome set as your default browser. If your default browser is not already Google Chrome, you can change it by opening up the Settings menu and going to System > Default apps. Under Web browser, click the browser that's currently set as your default app and choose Google Chrome from the pop-up menu. If you don't see Google Chrome as an option, you should probably download it and install it on your PC.

2. Install Chrometana
Once you've made Google Chrome your default browser, open up Google Chrome and install the Chrome extension Chrometana. After you add Chrometana to Chrome, you'll see a page asking you to pick your preferred search engine: Google, DuckDuckGo or Yahoo. Click the search engine (Google) you want to use.

To return to this page at any time, you can open the Settings menu in Chrome and go to Extensions > Chrometana > Options.

3. Search the Web
Open up Cortana and search for anything -- all Web results will go through the search engine you just chose in Chrometana.

How to clean your keyboard's keys with a piece of clear tape

How to clean your keyboard's keys with a piece of clear tape

How to clean your keyboard's keys with a piece of clear tape

No matter how often you clean your keyboard, in-between and underneath the keys are likely filthy, especially if you have pets.

If flipping the keyboard upside-down and shaking it doesn't cut it, the best way to get underneath the edges of your keys is to use something you probably already have around your house: tape.

What kind of tape to use

Any kind of low-adhesive tape is fine. Avoid tape that has a lot off stickiness that will leave behind a residue, like duct tape or aviator tape. Clear tape -- the kind you wrap gifts with -- is an ideal choice, since it's thin and easy to manipulate. Sticky notes work in a pinch, too.

How to stickie your way to clean
Cleaning your keyboard with tape is fairly simple. Here's how to stick it to those keyboard dust bunnies:

  • Tear off an inch of tape and fold it in half so that the non-sticky sides are facing together and the sticky sides are facing outward.
  • Slip the tap underneath the edges of the keys and rub back and forth a few times.
  • Pull the piece of tape out and prepare to be disgusted.
  • Repeat until all of your keys are clean.
  • I have done this little cleaning trick even when I thought my keyboard was sparkly clean and still was horrified every time. You just don't realize how much dust and cat hair can accumulate under keys.
How to sweeten your foul-smelling garbage disposal

How to sweeten your foul-smelling garbage disposal

How to sweeten your foul-smelling garbage disposal

Garbage disposals smell because their warm, wet location is a prime area for bacteria growth and leftover food particles to hang out and stink up your kitchen.

The plastics used to make the disposal can also absorb odors from the foods you dispose of. If you're sure that the trap is clean, then the odor may be the long-lasting kind.

Luckily, there are some simple ways to quickly rid your disposal of odors.

1. Cut the funk with citrus: Citrus fruits are natural deodorizers because of the fragrant oils in their peels. Simply cut a medium-sized lemon or orange into fourths, turn on the tap and disposal and send the slices down.

2. Ice: Turn on the garbage disposal and the cold water tap. Put about two dozen ice cubes into the sink and feed them into the disposal. After the last cube is gone, let the water run for another minute. Any food particles and other crud in your disposal will freeze and float away.

3. Baking soda: Pour ¼ cup of baking soda into the drain. Let it sit for two hours and then turn on the tap and disposal. Leave them on for a few seconds.

4. Borax: Pour three to four tablespoons of Borax down the drain. Let it sit for an hour and then rinse the drain with hot water.
How to free up space in iCloud

How to free up space in iCloud

How to free up space in iCloud

Running out of cloud storage and don't want to buy more? Here are a few different ways to free up space in iCloud.

Apple's iCloud storage service can be used to stash away photos, videos, device backups, and more in the cloud. The company offers users 5GB of space for free, however because it's 5GB of space per Apple ID and not per device, you may find yourself running out of space faster than you would like. While additional storage can be purchased from Apple, there are ways to free up space in your iCloud account before shelling out some extra cash.

Check your space

To see how much space you are using, enter Settings on your iPhone or iPad, select iCloud, click Storage, followed by Manage Storage.

Delete old backups

There is a good chance that your backups are taking up most of your space. If you have backups from your old device, say from an iPhone 4 or iPad 2 that you no longer own, you can just go ahead and delete those. Simply click on the backup scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Backup.

Change backup settings

You may also be backing up items that you don't really need to have saved in the cloud. For me, that includes Safari data (I use Google Chrome instead) and Contacts (I save my contacts to Gmail), but it's different for everyone. Head to Setting and click on iCloud. From here you can pick and choose which items you would like to be saved to iCloud. If you find something you really don't care about, flip the switch to off to delete the data. This will also make sure it isn't backed up the next time you perform a backup.

Alternative photo services

An easy way to free up a lot of space in iCloud is to delete photos from your backups. Instead of having photos stored in iCloud, I recommend using one of the many third-party cloud services that offer even more free space than Apple. My personal favorite is Google Photos, which offers unlimited storage for free. There's also Yahoo's Flickr app, Microsoft One Drive, DropBox, and Amazon Cloud Drive. You can learn more about these services in this article.
